As every Pakistani has affected by high electricity unit prices, it is almost impossible to pay electricity bills and manage other expenses at the same time which why solar panels are very important nowadays “Click here to check the prices“. The cost of electricity is so much high in all over the Pakistan that a common person cannot bear all of it’s expenditures. To handle the consumption of electricity and decrease the electricity bills, Government has announced a policy to provide relief to the people of Punjab.
In a meeting of federal ministers held on 5th July 2024, CM Punjab Maryum Nawaz has announced a relief package for electricity consumers. In this relief package, free solar panels will be distributed in Punjab. The purpose of this scheme is to reduce the electricity cost for poor people so, they can improve their living standards.
Eligibility Criteria
There are no such hard and fast rules to be meet the criteria. You only need to check a few following things before applying for this scheme:
- Applicant must have a valid computerised CNIC (ID) Card.
- Applicant must be a Pakistani citizen.
- Applicant must not be involved in criminal activities such as meter tempering and electricity theft.
- Applicant must have complete documentation of his property where he wants to install solar panels.
- For rental places you must have a permission letter from the land lord.
Only the consumers who are using less than 200 units will get 100% free solar panels. Other users have to pay some amount according to following criteria:

| 201 to 500 units | 25% cost to be paid |
| Over 500 units | Interest free loans will be allocated |
According to above mentioned details, the consumers who are using 201 to 500 units per month will only pay 25% cost of the overall system. Users which are using 500 plus units per month will get interest free loan from government of Punjab which will be paid on the base of easy instalments.
How to apply for free solar panel scheme
After checking the eligibility criteria, you must have to apply for this scheme for free installation of the solar system. By following method you can get registered for the scheme:
- SMS your electricity bill reference number to 8800.
- A confirmation message will be sent on your number to validate your application.
- After confirmation, you will be informed about further process.
An alternate application method is also available. Visit any nearest Bank of Punjab Branch and get your application form. Fill out the details and submit the application. You will be updated about your application through mail or sms message.
Note:- This scheme is announced recently and there is very little information available about it. Keep checking the Government of Punjab Official website for updated information.
